You need to swipe down very very slowly from the upper right or left corner to
get to it. You’ll hear a lot of clicking going on while you do this but it is
possible. This one threw me at first too.

I am experiencing exactly the same thing! I just updated to 13.1.1, but my
HomePod software still says it’s up-to-date At 12.4.1. I even turned off
automatic updates to see if that would make a difference. It didn’t, so I
turned them back on.

automatic updates on. When I go in there and click software update in the home
app, I’m always being told my HomePod is up to date on Ios

With touch typing, the character is entered when you lift your finger. With
touch typing, it's entered when you touch the letter. I could never make touch
typing work very well. You have to have very good aim. :)
