If you want a default format to save too, and you are not happy that the default format for pages is pages, then why not use Word? Microsoft Word is the only word processor that has a default .doc type. If you were to use any other word processor you would have to either save as or export. If

I have the exact same problem. And I have noticed since 4.0 upgrade that the VoiceOver voices are becoming more choppy. The letter r cuts off so quick and sometimes H sounds like A. I would much prefer some male english voices and am going to email Apple too. Hopefully they might listen.
