I know that's not exactly what you need but I use easynews.com to do this.
You pay a subscription but the benefits are there.
The web interface is very accessible and many more features.

Wow! Is usenet even still around? As far as a client, and one that supported
offline reading, Heleme was the best with VO. Sadly, it's no longer available,
there was one called OSXnews too iirc.

unison, that you can use for this. I don't subscribe to any of these news
groups, so have not tried it for accessibility.
