I just made a short recording to test this. Pressing Tab never started the
recording. the only way I got it to where I could play it was by pressing the
Escape key. then I was in a dialog asking whether I really wanted to cancel
the recording. If I choose Keep recording, then I'm back in my

Pressing tab will start you from the beginning of your file. It's where
your playhead is. If you route the insertion point to the playhead at
any point in your file, (with command+y), then pressing space will start
from that point.
