down T during startup) to make it into the world's most expensive
external hard drive. Then connect it via USB to your old Mac and it
should show up as a drive
No, target node does not work with USB, it might work with lightning though.
Your next best alternative is too shutdown wireless on both systems and connect
with a standard ethernet cable. Apple computers do not require a hub for wired
connections.

As long as you have the Thunderbolt to Ethernet connector, you could simply use
Migration Assistant to migrate everything exactly as is from your older Mac to
the newer one. The Set-Up Assistant will guide you through this when you start
up your new MBA.
