Actually, the System settings are a bit tricky to use with Apple Script even if
you are using UI Scripting.
I was able today to put together an AppleScript that clicks on the System Sound
tab in the Menu Extras area, but it appears there is no way to perform a
option click in AppleScript

As far as I know, I don’t think so. Though I found out that using FN+F12 key
brings up sound settings quicker than having to dig through system prefs.

I think there must have been a change made in how output sound
devices are handled in El Cap. Under Yosemite I could switch between
Bluetooth and wired headsets if necessary.
