Tim and others, thanks for your fantastic help. I have a couple more questions
if I may? If I tab at the beginning of a paragraph, do I get the usual 5 space
indent to denote a paragraph? Also, is there any way to make my preferred font
the default in text edit?
Maybe I won't have to reach
Also you can use cmd shift t to switch from plain text to rtf. A friend of mine
found that keystroke by accident.
Take care.

Hi Justin, Tim, Kimberly, and Others,
I'd just like to add that after setting up fonts and line spacing in
TextEdit you can simply save this setup as you own style file.
Interact with the "Styles" pop up button in the ruler and select
"Other". Then press the "Add to favorites" button and s
Hi Justin,
The only way I can duplicate your issue here is by beginning to enter text
right away after opening TextEdit. What's happening in this case is that upon
opening TextEdit, it announces the Edit field, but you're not actually

I'm not sure what version I'm using. Truthfully I have not used it for about 4
months. I'm using what ever came out in february of this year. Sorry i can't be

Yep. Not just me either. A friend of mine had the same thing happened. So when
you said you did a podcast on OO, I figured it was happening to everyone and
you'd somehow gotten around it. What version of OO are you using? Is it 3.2.1?
If not, I can just get the version you have until this is fix
OO tha'ts odd. No it didn't happen to me I don't think. but you might want to

Sarah,
I just tried the latest Open Office last night. When I hit a command-comma, OO
crashes. Any idea how to fix this? If it's in your podcast, I'll happily
download it.

Hi tim,
LOL. Nope, I wouldn't try to get the attributes of non-existent text. Don't
think you'd get terribly far with that one. Seriously though, I usually write a
paragraph or two, then I feel like I need to make sure it's formatted correctly
even though I know that I changed the settings. Mos
Hi Justin,
Does your document have any text in it at all? If the document is empty then
pressing VO-t will yield a muffled ding noise because there's nothing there for
it to take the text attributes of. Simply type one letter and then press the
VO-t command and you'll hear the text attributes
Hi tim,
This is helpful to me as well. I have one question about the VO-t command for
hearing the current text attributes. For some reason, this command works fine
for me when I open existing documents but all I get is one of the voiceover
sounds when I use it in a newly created document. This
The thing I don't understand is why does that ruler not appear some time when I
create an document? I have a theory and it's pretty dumb but here goes.
It might have something to do if I'm starting out in plain text or not right?

Hi Kimberly,
1. To set the line spacing in TextEdit:
• Stop Interacting with the Edit field.
• Navigate to the Ruler and Interact With it.
• Navigate to the Paragraph and Line Spacing menu and press it with
VO-space.
• choose your desired line spacing.

Hello folks:
I would really love to use text edit to write essays for school, but most
instructors like Times New Roman font and double spacing. I've checked the
fonts out in text edit, but it seems very confusing. Does anyone have
experience with this? If so, could you give me a pointer o
