Hello, I changed the subject line of this thread to more closely reflect the current discussion.
Okay, I looked this up for you and the following is the easiest and most screen reader accessible way to change this setting in your Google account. To enable the Less Secure Apps feature, do the following: 1. Using your preferred web browser, sign in to your gMail account. Do not close the browser. This step merely insures that you are correctly signed into your gMail account. 2. Now, in the address bar of your preferred browser, used in step 1, paste in the following URL: http://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps 3. Now, simply switch the radio button from off to on. Your setting will be automatically saved. That's all there is to it. Following my signature, I will paste in the original Google support article on this along with its URL. Good Luck, Mark Allowing less secure apps to access your account Google may block sign-in attempts from some apps or devices that do not use modern security standards. Since these apps and devices are easier to break into, blocking them helps keep your account safe. Some examples of apps that do not support the latest security standards include: •The Mail app on your iPhone or iPad with iOS 6 or below •The Mail app on your Windows phone preceding the 8.1 release •Some Desktop mail clients like Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird Change account access for less secure apps To help keep Google Apps users' accounts secure, we may block less secure apps from accessing Google Apps accounts. As a Google Apps user, you will see a "Password incorrect" error when trying to sign in. If this is the case, you have two options: •Option 1: Upgrade to a more secure app that uses the most up to date security measures. All Google products, like Gmail, use the latest security measures. •Option 2: Change your settings to allow less secure apps to access your account. We don't recommend this option because it might make it easier for someone to break into your account. If you want to allow access anyway, follow these steps: 1.Go to the "Less secure apps" section in My Account. 2.Next to "Access for less secure apps," select Turn on. (Note to Google Apps users: This setting is hidden if your administrator has locked less secure app account access.) https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=en From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Mauricio Molina Sent: Saturday, November 07, 2015 6:28 PM To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Outlook on the mac and Gmail Hi Denise, I have run into this issue a few times while assisting others set up their Gmail account in Outlook on a Windows machine. Apparently, Gmail does not consider Outlook or the Mail app on the Mac to be secure. Going from memory, what had to be done is that we had to sign into the Gmail account using the web interface. Once there, we had to activate the link for Manage My Account. On this page there was a link that said something about Security, activate this link. Here is where I ran into trouble, at least using JAWS on a PC. There is an option to Allow Less Secure Apps and this option is off by default. Unfortunately, although it was always easy to locate the heading where this option was available, JAWS would not identify the option located below the heading as a checkbox and neither would any other Windows screen reader; I did not try this with the Mac and Voiceover. If you have sighted assistance, perhaps they can help with this last step. Once Allow Less Secure Apps is enabled, all will work as it should. I apologize I cannot provide the exact steps but hope the information above will be enough to get you where you need to be. Details: Friday, November 6, 2015 11:14 PM (Central Standard Time) Chicago, IL, USA* We strongly recommend that you use a secure app, like Gmail, to access your account. All apps made by Google meet these security standards. Using a less secure app, on the other hand, could leave your account vulnerable. Learn more. Are you using two-step verification where you have to enter both your password and a six-digit code when you sign into Gmail from a new device? If so, you need to visit your Google account settings and create an app-specific password rather than using the regular Gmail password you use to sign in on the web. I could not sign in with my password, and received an e-mail saying that given the security level of gmail, it would not allow me to connect through outlook. I successfully did this on the iPhone with outlook. does anyone know why I would get this message on the Mac? thanks. . -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list.
