Yes, I remember that check box, but I'm not sure I understand what that would
have to do with the lid being shut. *shrug* Either way, while I didn't find a
fix, it seems to not be happening now...

Thanks, Esther. That's definitely a fool-proof way to make sure. :)

Yeah I know this but I still want my mac to stay away so I can stay in that
skype call while eating or my computer could do what ever while the lid is
closed and it is in a vented area so nothing melts. I can do this on a windows
machine so why not on a mac? I know there is software out there b

hello; the process of sleep on a mac is much different than with a
windows computer. it takes literally only seconds to be back to full
speed and it will be in whatever app it was in when you closed the
lid. all your other windows will also still be open. you can set the

but that will not stop the mac from going to sleep when the lid is shut. I
know I'm different but I in this case want the mac to stay away when I close
the lid. that way I can put it on a higher shelf and eat, or shut the lid go to
a different class and open it and resume taking notes.

Hmm; i just went to energy saver under system preferences and there is
a check box that is checked on mine that says put the hard drive to

Also if you're in a big hurry, you can use the command+option+eject and that
should also do the trick.

Hi Esther,
When using the method you mentioned below, you can simply press the "s" key
when the dialog is up and your Mac will go to sleep. Too bad that didn't work
for my kids when they were little and needed a nap.
FYI, "r" will restart and return will Shutdown.

Hi Mark,
I usually put my Mac to sleep by briefly pressing the power on/off button. This brings
up a dialog window with the prompt about whether I'm sure I want to shut down with
buttons for restart, sleep, cancel, and shut down. I find that pressing the "sleep
button" always works to put my
I have Energy Saving, but nothing under there, either battery or power adapter
tabs, about lid behavior.

You received this message beca
you need to look under system preferences for power savings. One of
the things I love about the mac is not having to worry about it going
to sleep or coming back to it when you close and open the case. good

My Macbook Pro15 has a few times now *NOT* gone to sleep when the lid was put
down. I can't find any prefs controlling lid behavior anywhere (I'm running
all up-to-date Snow Leopard and apps); where might it be? The computer gets a
bit warm when it's trying to run with the lid shut...
