Thought I would pass this one on as I just learned of it last night on today in
ios. If you double tap and hold on the archive button you will receive a
dialog which will let you delete the message you have selected after you whent
into the edit mode. HTH.

Let me take this in a couple parts. First of all, The iOS mail client
handles gmail stuff pretty well; just make sure the option for
archiving is turned off; this will give you a delete button instead.
