If on iOS, you are totally correct. There is no need for a third party app.
The Files app that is stock with iOS devices has the ability to integrate
DropBox

Backup & Sync for Google Drive is what you may wish to use. I don't believe
that it is in the Mac App Store. You may wish to do a search for it and go
from there.

If you have the document in Microsoft Word then why not setup either iCloud
drive or One Drive / Drop Box open the document in word on your iPad and then
save it to one of the other cloud storage areas,
Or simply open google drive on your mac book and open the file from there.
