Sidebar. Once you have navigated to the item, it is selected. Now, just stop
interacting with the Sidebar, and navigate to the Folder View area, where you
can interact, and select an item from the folder contents.

Hello,
The sidebar is a place to store favorite locations and also has quick access to
tags and mounted drives. To actually view something selected in the sidebar,
press VO-J to jump to the main window area of the Finder window.
Also, the keystroke command-2 is a shortcut for list view.
