I'm using Protectmac. It uses the clamxav engine. I use Protectmac because I
love its interface much more than I like the clamxav UI. Protectmac is around
$49 or so a year and it works 100 percent with VO.
They have a 30 day trial.

Yes, Sophos works mostly well. I don't need it anymore since I last swept my
data with it, but for on-demand scans it's fine.
But yes, generally I don't think AV is needed for Mac. More than anything,
keep your software updated and practice safe computing, and you should be fine.
