thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I took the shades off and restarted at around
half arm's length, and so far I have had 100% unlocking.

First, I would set up your Face ID without the sun glasses on. Face ID should
not have a problem figuring out who you are even when you have the sun glasses
on afterwards. Yes, a little further away is a good thing. A full arms length
works, but 30 to 50 cm suffice in my opinion.

I don't have anywhere near the issues you have.
I'm not sure if I have attention settings on or off, I assume off as I'd have
to be lucky to look at the camera.

I used to have a hard time until someone on one f these lists gave me a tip.
That is, hold the phone farther away, about arm’s length away, and it works 99%
of the time.
