gets me to the top or bottom of a list respectively.

Command+option+up arrow jumps to the top and command+option+down arrow jumps to

The keystroke that you are looking for is command+option+up arrow to go to the
top and command+option+down arrow to go to the bottom of the mail list.

I use classic view in mail and list view in finder and it works. You may have
to interact with the list.
