Yes, the same happens for me. You can get back to the particular message once
you open your windows, and then find what you don't want to read and delete by
pressing the delete key. Unless anyone else has anymore ideas?

I've recently switched to reading messages from this list in the thread format
and am liking the way it works. I have 2 questions. If there are messages
left on a thread and I don't need/want to read the remaining messages, is there
a quicker way to stop reading the thread or do I have

If you don't want to read anymore messages in thread, press command option W
together. This closes all mail windows.
The next question you asked is if the windows are closed what to do. Press
Command 1 to open the mail window.
