I'm trying to revive myold iMac from around 2011 or so, I'm pretty sure it was
running El Capitan. I'm locked out and can't log in because of a password logon
failure even though the same password always worked and is the same that I've
used on every mac i ever had.

No matter, Now I'm trying to reinstall the OS from recovery mode but the El
Capitan installer package is missing. I figure that I should be able to get the
installer and put it on a USB stick and somehow reinstall from that.
Can anyone help me with this and walk me through the basic steps and where I
can get the installer package?

I wasthinking of just junking the iMac, but it's still usable and now I really
want to get this thing back and running if nothing more than for a novelty.
Plus, I don't like not being able to do something until I've exhausted all
options and possibilities.
Please help with this if you can.
