Good morning all.
I wisht there was a way to make voice over stop saying, return, new line, when
reading in say all mode in any text editing application.
Heck, even preview will do it.
Any suggestions? Or is there nothing I can do about it.

I've never seen that happen. Is it with a certain voice? Do you have
punctuation set to all?

Interesting, mine doesn't say return it just says new line, which I like as I
like knowing the formatting of the message or page or content I'm reviewing.
Do you have it set to read lines?

Hi.
This usually happens with plane text files in textedit and other similar
applications.
I've written Apple accessibility I think a couple of times about this, but
don't remember what responses I've gotten. Might be high time to write them
again about it, because it really is annoying.

If it's in files, were these files ever on Windows? My personal theory
is that vo will read a $lf (line feed) character as new line, since
the mac uses just $lf to denote a hard return. Windows, on the other
hand, uses $crlf, so I think vo sees the $lf as new line, but then
sees $cr (carriage
Matt,
It does this for me as well in TextEdit, but I don't know what to change
either. Just thought you'd like to know it's not just you.
Thanks,
Harry

I think whether you get new line or new line and return depends on the
type of line break in the file. I know sometimes when there were both I've
taken out the returns. I can't remember whether I've ever performed this task
in Text Edit or have always used emacs in terminal. But that digresses
I read a lot of plaintext files and I don't always, or even usually, have this
happen. There must be another variable involved besides. I think it's more
likely if the line break is such that there is both a new line and a return but
I'm not sure.

Hi.
That's it exactly. It's too bad there's not an easy way to convert a file
quickly without having to save the file all over again.

This saying of new line happens also in Itext express with epub files. It makes
reading epub files intolerable. I also get it in the mail app if I open a
message, but not if I use the preview pane. I do not care one whit about the
format of email. I just want to know the text. I can see the
I only get the new line spoken in HTML emails. Otherwise, in .doc or .docx
files created on a PC, VO doesn't say new line unless I navigate line by line.
What are the verbosity settings being used by those of you who have the problem?
I've also tried with different voices: Fred, Alex, Tom and
