Huh? That's all I've ever done with iso files, dd'd them to some media.
Of course, what's really cool is to install directly from the iso and
avoid media entirely. Newer Macs can do this. See:

I want to flash an iso file to a usb stick.
The iso contains vinux 5.1 and i found a page on how to do this.
I can’t find this right now but it tels me to format the usb drive as fat and
with scheme guid.
THen i should use a tool called Etcher which i have downloaded and its half
accessible
