Based on what I read. fsck allows one the opportunity to recover data. I didn't dig much deeper but am surmising that fsck could not repair the partition. TM transfer will soon be done...in about 9 hours. :) I probably could have deleted some of it first. Oh well. From E.T.'s Keyboard...

Hi, FSCK is a File System check. Not sure why it rendered your partition read only, but I don't see any reason why changing the Time Machine to a different partition would cause you any problems. Of course, you need to ensure that the partition is formatted MacOS Extended Journaled. Later...

Hi, Turn Time Machine off from within System Preferences. With TM turned off, you should be able to erase the partition. TM puts a lock on the volume, which is why you cannot erase that partition. It is possible that there's a bad sector or block on that partition, but we'll only go there if
