Yeah, I'm going to call accessibility today and see what they suggest, but it
does sound like I need to reinstall. *sigh* Thanks for playing around with it,
Ricardo.

Hi Chris,
Nope, it hasn't. All keys work as expected once I log in.

Ricardo,
Also me too, on my 27in iMac and my Mini and Air, I get no issues, both Voice
Over starting without issue and also with no mention of additional windows.
I previously had Lion on all three machines and have only performed a straight
upgrade, not a clean install.

Both of my machines always now speak on login, but when I upgraded my Macbook I
was not hearing speech at login. After selecting the option in System
Preferences and enabling function keys in the keyboard prefs, I was then able

Hmm,
I think this might be machine specific. I've restarted my MBP a number of
times now, and VO comes up at the log on screen with no issues.

Are you pressing FN to adjust the volume? or trying to adjust the volume
without pressing FN? I am wondering if the behaviour of your function keys has
changed?

Thanks, folks. I had forgotten that the login options were in a list and I kept
missing it. I checked the box and tried logging back in, and it works.
As far as I'm aware, VO-f5 simply describes the item in the VO cursor.
Thanks,
Teresa

Oh good, I am geting that 2 dialogue box thing as well. I was hoping someone
else would have the problem. Since it doesn't seem to have another dialogue
once logged in, I have just ignored it as a weird glitch or something. But, it
would be better if it wasn't there at all.

Hi Chris,
That's one of the weird things. Pressing those keys does absolutely nothing.
I'd say it was like the keyboard doesn't work, except that I am able to
interact with the user list, select myself, and enter my password.
Cheers,
Donna

Donna,
I did at first have this issue on one of my Macs. After ticking the box in
login options for VO to kick in on login did not work for me. So I hit VO + F5
at login and turned the volume up and it worked.
I am going to assume you have already tried this.
One thing I have noticed though
Hi Teresa,
the option is in System Prefs under Users and login options, but checking it
doesn't same to make it work. I've written to Apple about this, you might want
to do so as well.
Best,
Donna

It should still be in system preferences under the users and groups setting.
Choose the log in options group and click the lock to enable making changes.
Then there'll be a check box to have voiceover start at the login screen.
Good luck,
rachel

Hi, all,
ML has changed things a bit. Is there still a way to have Voiceover in the
login screen? I can't seem to find that option anywhere.
Thanks,
Teresa
