The only way I know of how to disable this feature is to put Mail into Classic
view in the View tab of Mail Preferences, then to get rid of the Preview pane
by bringing the mouse to the horizontal splitter that separates the headings
from the message, and double clicking with the

As I brows messages in mail lion normal view the messages are automatically
marked as read even if if I don't open them. Can I stop that from happening?
