Yeah,
Thats where it really shines. When you go into VO utilities and under
navigation set the mouse cursor to move the VO cursor, you can explore an app
or webpage. I found this pretty useful on facebook. It also helps me converse
more effortlessly with sighted people about things on the Ma
Hi Mary!
As yet I'm not use to the track pad!
But one thing I can think of is...
Have you had a sighted person say [it's at the top left under something or
other!]
And as far as I know the Apple way of doing things is that the screen looks the
same for sighted people!
So the track pad shows you w
I Too got the Magic Trackpad not long after they came out, but I haven't used
it as much as I thought I would. I like the num pad commander a lot, but I just
haven't found the trackpad all that useful. I do prefer it for those situations
when I need to do a real mouse click, as I seem always to
Hi Donna and all!
Well Donna I hope you've got your track pad problem solved!
But as far as reading the row info I've just set up a track pad shortcut for
this!
I've left the modifier key set as the command key!
Although you can choose any of the others like Shift if you prefer!
Seeing that all th
Hi all,
Here's what I do in using trackpad commander in mail. Granted, my methods
aren't as elegant as using an iPhone, but for me they work, as it gives me the
best of both worlds. To interact with the messages table, I use the tab key,
then use the arrow keys to move up and down, and the en
sort of MacBook lacking a num
pad, I would be more inclined to use the track pad.

Hey Ricardo,
Haven't played with it in Safari yet. I can see where it might make more sense
there.

Hi,
One has little to do with the other. on an iPhone, the entire OS is optimized
to be run via gesture input. Not so for snow leopard. Yes there are some
similarities but the overall experience is much different. At least in my
opinion Trackpad commander can be very helpful but you need to
Hi there,
I bought a magic trackpad when they first came out. Maybe I have a learning
disability, but it seems to be more trouble then it is worth. Maybe that will
change in Lion, but for now, it just sits on my bottom shelf. This is why I am
still debating getting an Iphone in December.

Hi Geoff,
This is interesting, thanks for posting. I had been sort of hoping that the
trackpad could be a replacement for keyboard use, but it sounds like at best,
you can use it as a supplement for the keyboard. I think I would find that
more distracting than just using the keyboard, though
Hi Carolyn,
thanks for taking the time to play around with this. I'm glad I'm not the only
one who's having trouble. :) I'll keep at it too, let's both keep each other
posted.
Cheers,
Donna

Hi Donna and others,
For me the quickest solution is to make extensive use of the preview pane. I
also found it helpful to go into VO utility under navigation and uncheck the
box labeled: "Automatically interact when using tab key".
Though I can interact with the preview pane text by placing a
Hi Donna:
Well, I had been using the trackpad with some success, particularly for
continuous read text. I have had success previously working with mail in the
past. But, I just tried to reply to your post using the trackpad to get in
place to type, and got all of nowhere. I can interact with s
Hi Jim, Colin, and all,
Not sure why, but this isn't working for me. In fact, I'm having abysmal
results with the trackpad commander as a whole. Does anyone seriously use this
thing? The only column I can get it to read in mail is the mailbox column,
despite swiping left and right and having
Hi Donna and anybody else who might be interested!

[just by chance] in mail I was scrolling the header list like

According to keyboard help, you are supposed to be able to hold down the the
control key and tap to jump to a linked item, such as moving from the messages

I can get this to accknowledge this gesture in keyboard help, but for some

Hi Esther,
thanks for this info. I knew that there are some gestures that are different
from or not present on the iPhone, so I'm sure I'll find the help section very
useful.
I'm really surprised that there isn't a way to open an email message using
the trackpad. that seems like a major o
Hi Donna,
1. There's a section in the VoiceOver Getting Started Guide (Chapter 11 on
Using VoiceOver Gestures) that describes using TrackPad Commander. Use VO-H to
bring up the help menu and press "g" to go to the "Getting Started Guide" and
return. Open the web item rotor with VO-U and press
Hi all,
I've finally decided to spend some time messing with the trackpad commander,
and have a couple of questions.
1. Is there any way to view a list of commands? when I go into the assign
Commands table I can see the gestures, but none of the commands are displayed.
2. How do I navigate
