While connecting a USB printer to an Airport does make it appear as a
network printer I'm not sure it it's AirPrint compatible however. The
product info doesn't specify that it is.

Jenine,
As an alternative to buying a new airprint capable printer there are a
couple ways to make your older printers available to your iOS devices.
There are a number of airprint capable print servers that can attach to
your printer and then present them on the (wireless) network as airprint
Thanks, the software option does sound like the ticket. We do have one PC that
stays on to run streaming audio in the house and that would be the one this
software would be installed on.

have no printer set up for this activity. Here are some possibly stupid
questions about doing so.
1. Do I need a wireless printer for this task?

Your printer has to be air print capable before any app will find it. Check the
model number of your printer on the manufacturers website see if it is air
print capable. You should also be able to find the corresponding manufacturers
app for your printer to install to your device.
