I read somewhere recently that there was a way to add a keyboard shortcut to
open finder. I went to the commander category in vo utility but when I chose
open application finder was not in the list of apps. I did a spotlight search
for finder and did not find the app either. What am I

Do you not use command+tab or command+shift+tab to get to the finder!

Why would you need a short cut key to open Finder? It's always just there.

Hi the f11 is very cool. What is its function? "go to desktop?" It makes a

Just to make it easier to not have to cycle with command tab ofr go to dock.
Same reason for creating a mail shortcut although it is easy to go to dock and
press mail. Just less steps.

You could paste the following in to Apple script and associate the script file
with a keystroke. This would allow you to have just one keystroke to access the
finder window.
I can't remember if this list allows for attachments, so just in case, I've
attached the Apple script file
