I’m having trouble getting my Mac mini to shut down. I press the button and
vo-right arrow to shut down and vo-space on it but it doesn’t shut down. I
think the reason is because torrent is running in the background. sometimes
I can tell it hasn’t shut down, but more often

By default, uTorrent has a setting set where it will not allow the Mac to sleep
or shut down while uTorrent is running, even if all the windows are closed.
This can be adjusted in uTorrents preferences.
Make sure when quitting apps such as this one for example, that you use Command
Q and

technician that turning off and on a computer damages a hard drive
Shutting down a mac or any computer is important to refresh the memory. If the
memory isn’t refreshed often enough, the machine will eventually slow down over
time.

or if I notice something not running right or for a few other reasons, I shut
down or restart. I've been doing this for years on various computers with no

That being said, I leave my Mac on all the time as well. I’ll restart maybe
once every 2 or 3 weeks for any number of reasons. From updates, to general
maintenance.
Bottom line though, you don’t really gain or lose anything
