I bet if you developed an app like that, you'd get a lot of positive votes from
developers that are frustrated that they can't get their packages voted on. :)

The apps for N900 are in the extras repository (may be testing/devel versions
too). The app names are IcedTea6 (for Java) and MicroEmulator (for ME). They
tend to work well for most JAVA/ME based programs.

I got some nice hard ruberized cases from Mangowalk.com
The silicon ones were ok, but I didn't like the feel of them. If you like
silicon cases though, they're good quality, and have two parts with their own
sliders on the side, which makes a nice seal.
