Hi,
A couple of quick question from someone who has just upgraded from a
Palm Tx to a N810.
1. I am hoping someone can point me to a good Personal information
manager and address book that I could use to get updates from google
calendar.
2. Can I install open office or similar Doc reader on my
I'm running OS2008 on an N810 from:
./flasher-3.0 -F RX-44_2008SE_1.2007.42-18_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R
I added the repository from steps 1-5 in the Installation section of:

I enabled red pill mode.
I tried to install tetex-extra and I get:

I have the new Emacs port running on my N810. And I'm using it with a Freedom
Universal bluetooth keybaord in HID mode. It works like a dream. Except for
one thing: ctrl-e is trapped by something and brings up a Search menu. This is
really annoying because c-e is used so much in Emacs. I looked in
The piece I have no idea how to do is:
1. Install some python dependencies from the root terminal:
*apt-get install python2.5 python2.5-gtk2 python2.5-hildon
python2.5-xml

This means nothing to me but it is clearly the critical step. Can anyone

OK. I got it to work. Just in case anybody else needs to do this, this is how.
First, you need to put the .desktop files in:
/usr/share/applications/hildon/
I previously mistakingly put them in:
/usr/share/applications/hildon-navigator/
Second, when you puth them in the correct location, yo
I followed the directions in the wiki for installing NFS:
http://maemo.org/community/wiki/settingupnfs/
I find that I have to execute the 3 insmod instructions every time I boot.
It was sufficient to run them only once before I upgraded to OS2008 (on an
N800). Is there an easy way to make the i

I do things in ~/.profile, so definitely ~/.profile is sourced by the
shell, *but* it is sourced also by som

What is wrong with the standard swap options available under the memory
settings?

Yes, it's under the control panel. I think it's under the memory
section. A swap file can only be created on the internal SD card.

I just got a N800 and would really like to install an app that syncs the GPE
calendar with my Gmail calendar. Unfortunately, this application depends on
Pymaemo 2.5 being installed and the installation instructions for that are
completely undecipherable for someone who has never used Unix/Linux. I
The n810 comes with the internal flash (/media/mmc2) formatted as FAT32. It
came with two directories (Video and map) and one file .apt-archive-cache.
1. Will reflashing OS2008 with:
./flasher-3.0 -F RX-44_2008SE_1.2007.42-18_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R
reinitialize the internal flash

Does the default shell (Busy box ash) have a scripting language? If so, what
is the syntax for setting an environment variable, something like:
export RSYNC_SSH=ssh
Is there an init script that is automatically run upon login or starting ash?
Something like ~/.login or ~/.profile? If so, what are
I press shift or space (easy to find even in the dark) in that case.
But you're right, switching it on when focusing a textbox would be a
welcome feature.

Thats just the problem. Without light, when the keyboard light goes off,
I see nothing on it. What I suggest is switching on when you focus a
textbox or whatever...

You can boot from another partition on mmc card, not the one mounted to
/media/mmcX. Procedure is same as with N800 (or 770)

Hi,
Maybe your light-sensor is broken? The keyboard backlighting usually
depends on the ambient light.
If it's dark, the light goes on. It goes off after some idle time but
will go on again when you press any key.
