I investigated further. It turns out that tetex-bin (which tetex-base and
tetex-extra depend on) has conflicts with:
debconf 1.4.70.osso2
sed 4.1.2-8
coreutils 5.2.1-2osso1
debianutils 2.17
Further investigation indicates that there are two root conflicts. The first is

Is tehere any way to flash n800 without a usb connection?
My usb port has broken and I would like to install os2008...
Some friends proposed the possibility via bluetooth or SD card but I haven't
found any informarion.

yes, you can. But you will have to reflash the n800 again. I am not sure if
you can apply a OS 2008 backup to OS 2007.
Personaly, I think OS 2008 is stable, fast and missing apps are beeing
ported as I write. :-)
The platform matures with every new release.
