reveals it's a link to the correct zoneinfo file.
I guess /etc/timezone is obsolete. At least there is none on my desktop
Linux...

I'm running OS 2008 RX-44_2008SE_2.2007.50-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin on an
N810. I used the standard maemo menus to set the timezone to "New York" (the
closest thing there is to US/Eastern). And "date" correctly reports "EDT".
