After Christmas break I started with fresh 2008 installation and trying to
install more and more applications and find suspect with combination of
strace/htop.

A process waking
with regard to modest, it supports imap idle and seems to refresh
instantly. i just set the poll time to 2 hours and yet see my new
messages immediately.
this seems to stop the new mail notices which i am guessing reduces
the load as that seems to be triggered by the active polling. nice
though

My n800 battery life seems fine with 8OS, although it's more of a
subjective than objective measurement.

I know battery life topic was brought to this forum, but now I'd like to ask

I moved to OS2k8. I didn't ask before as I was waiting for official release.
Now I can confirm this is issue (in my case). Running on OS2007
