Adding display: block; to #main-nav .dropdown-sub li {}, in
/theme/raw/static/style/dropdown.css, fixes this for compatibility view
for IE8.
No observed nasty side effects in IE 8 with compatibility view turned
off, or for other browsers (Firefox and Chrome tested)
This was tested with the
With Mahara 1.5.2 and Internet Explorer 8, the dropdown menus work fine
if compatibility mode is off, but display horizontally if compatibility
mode is on.
No big deal, apart from the fact that our institutional Internet
Explorers are locked into compatibility mode on for intranet addresses

Sorry about the vagueness. For example, I hover over Content and the
menu appears, then i go to select a sub-menu (Journal for example) from
the content menu and the menu disappears. Active scripting is enabled
and the java is enabled within add-ons.

Our designer checked it out and she can't replicate the issues you
encounter in IE9.
The speed of it fading would be a js thing which is outside of the
theme. Thus, it shouldn't happen just in that theme but all of them.

Hi Ali,
Can you clarify what you mean by "disappears fairly quickly". Are the
menus disappearing before you can get to menu options, or is it just
that you are expecting the menus to fade away slowly after the mouse is
no longer over them?
