Yes. I would be happy to work :) Didn't know that Mahout is also
participating in SoC.

Also, any thoughts on what we might want someone to do? I think it
would be great to have someone implement one of the algorithms on our
wiki.

I would be there are some students interested in doing ML on Hadoop.
Any of the other committers willing to mentor? I am, but would also
like some others to help out if you have the time. See http
Personally, I like the vertical logo better than the horizontal one. The
icon is larger than the text and I favor that balance. Perhaps the
mahout on the elephant could be waving a hat like a rodeo cowboy.
That would mix metaphors a bit, but add some whimsy to the logo and make
the mahout stand out
+1 for the vertical format.
Vlcek has said that he will be putting in a real font as he finalizes the
logo. Presumably, that will also involve vectorizing and cleaning the basic
logo.

I know but Mahout will be presented soon on various occasions (e.g.
ApacheCon EU) and it would be great to have the logo by that time. Yeap?

The earlier ones were more fun and really got at your goal: Mahout is
fun and good. This one is more reserved and doesn't pop as much, in
my non-artistic opinion.
Everyone's a critic... :-) Thanks for taking up the task, Lukas!

hi,
i am new to mahout-dev.
shouldn't the mahout, the guy, be a bit more prominent? when this logo
is in thumbnail size he would be hardly visible.

Oh, ok -- I'd think we should stick to the font face of Hadoop, so that there is
a clear visual link connecting the two. But maybe others have different opinions
about it.

Actually the font is not hand-drawn but regular vector type. The same type
is used in both versions (standard and horizontal). Anyway, I can try
experimenting with other fonts as well but I do personally like this one.
