direction, I was able to go back up the chain a bit and find what I needed in
SpamAssassin to block the particular spammer in question based on his Bitcoin.

I think you need to change the list settings, hoping you have Admin rights:
You need to change in Privacy options -> Sender Filters -> Action to take
for postings from non-members for which no explicit action is defined =

What is the content of the emails you've received? I mean at least give us
a sample.
You can obfuscate email addresses if you want, but not the actual error.
