At least with Postfix and Exim4, there is experience running Mailman 2
and Mailman 3 in parallel.

I recommend you consider installing Mailman 3 and gradually migrating
to that installation.  Although Mailman 2.1 and Python 2.7 are both
pretty bulletproof, supporting libraries are continuously being
upgraded.  I'm particularly thinking of OpenSSL which is planning
large changes for its next major version.
