I think this is your problem. The FAQ <http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py?req=show&file=faq04.027.htp> recommends RedirectPermanent /mailman/ https://name of my server/mailman/ which may or may not have the same problem. You need to insure that whatever redirect you do applies only to http schemes and not https. You may need to use rewrite rules to accomplish this.
