The backup files in the server\RepositoryAdmin folder do not back up styles
and themes in layers. This should be possible to do programmatically. You
would use the Web API to loop through all layers in the repository, extract
their XML one by one, save each as a file, and then zip and copy/FTP the

To state the obvious,, you have tried restarting the services. When ever I
get the 'Unexpected error contacting site URL' error from studio, it
normally means something is not right with server. I suggest if you can
remote control to the server restarting the MG and WWW services.
