Anything in the system log, webserver log, or virus scan log on the server?
Anything odd about the filename?
Once the packaged data is loaded, are there any problems accessing the
schema description?

The GetCapabilities mapagent call returns a list of supported expression
functions for a given provider.
The Maestro Expression Editor uses this list to provide "intellisense" for
your current expression.
So if you don't see a function that does what you want to do, you probably
can't do it.

the problem with the propagation of properties is solved. The code was
looking for properties based on legend name when naem and legend name were
different. Like this, it was not possible to find any properties because the
