The load procedure is available in mapguide studio, I'm not sure about the
web studio! Even if you have mapguide studio trial version, you can load your
shp file to mapguide os.
About the fdo provider for shp, I had the same problem; I never could find
FDO provider for shp in

I need to have an application for finding and drawing the shortest path in
a network, like roads. Does anybody have a sample code in PHP for this, or know
somewhere that I can get such a code from?

For loading data, you can simply run the 'load procedure' in mg studio. For
more information you can read the pdf file getting started guide which is
installed while you install Autodesk Mapguide Studio.

? By default, the service is running as LocalService
(I think) and will not be able to access UNC shares.

Studio from what you are saying) Just click that and browse for your file
wherever it might be just like any other program. Set the settings you want
and hit Load Resources. Hope that helps.
