Hi Bruno,
We try our best to retain backward compatibility, but in some cases it is just
not possible. In this case the upgrade of PHP caused compilation errors
because it had added a GetMessage method. The way we resolved this was to
rename our GetMessage method to GetExceptionMethod.
This page has some instructions on how to get the source from subversion:
http://trac.osgeo.org/mapguide/wiki/CompilingMapGuide22
You will need to adjust some of the paths based on the version of MGOS that you
are using.
E.g., MGOS 2.1: svn export http://svn.osgeo.org/fusion/branches/fusion-2.0
Please note that a security fix is available for MapGuide Open Source 2.1.
This fix closes some cross-site scripting holes and should be applied as soon
as possible.
Update instructions can be found on the security fix for MapGuide Open Source

I know that this keeps coming up during discussions I have with developers,
however because it does not affect the responsiveness of the viewer---that is,
you can start using the viewer before the legend images are all downloaded,
fixing this for performance reasons has taken a lower priority.
I'm assuming that the map authors would like some control on how the legend
swatches look; and that's why I think there should be a chance for the user to
specify the image strip. Perhaps I'm wrong.

In the current architecture, config docs are attached to feature
sources; putting them with layers will require some non-trivial changes
and seems hacky to me. I think that looking into whether the performance
of the SHP provider on folders can be improved or not is the first thing
we should do.
