...and there you go, the Maestro API will allow you to do it in an
'Automated' fashion.
BTW, we've been testing the Maestro API here for some functionality and have
been very impressed so far Jackie. Great job.

So I guess my question is to all of you who are forced to use the DWF's in
MGE how are you updating yours? I'm using the commercial version of AIMS
(2012).
- Are you running load procedures and reconnecting the layers to the
updated dwf?
- Are you updating the DWF's through code?

If you set or upload a DWF into a Drawing Source in Maestro or through its
API, it will scan the DWF and automatically re-generate the sheet list for
that Drawing Source.

In the DWF data source xml is the tag:
com.autodesk.dwf.ePlot_PzUXam3FOUiHAfx0Jiafig
Note that the 'PzUXam3FOUiHAfx0Jiafig' portion of the name changes with
every DWF that's generated so you have to get that part of the name from the
DWF itself and replace it in the data source xml progra
When the load procedure is first run, it creates the directory with the DWF
and the uniqueID within the repository. If I run that same load procedure
again with an updated DWF, doesn't it just overwrite the existing DWF in the
same directory? I don't think it creates another one unless you create
The challenge with DWFs is that they are actually compressed directories of
files and that have a unique id and an xml that references the unique id.
Each time a DWF is created, it creates a unique ID. This information is
referenced in MapGuide. The Load Procedures deal with this.

I too would like to know how this all works and if updating the dwfs in this
manner avoids the Load Procedure and update issues I"m currently dealing
with. My issue is that since I can't just the Load Procedures manually, my
only other option is to update the dwfs that reside in the actualy librar
There's no UI option in Maestro, because I don't know whether DWF files *can*
actually be aliased.
No one has actually confirmed whether what has been suggested in this thread
actually works.

Interesting Discussion, I didn't know you could alias the path to a DWF.
Where in the DWF Drawing Source do you designate the ALIAS?
There is ADD/DELETE/DOWNLOAD/MARK within the Maestro Dialog box, but no
place for the ALIAS path...

Just create a new layer in MapGuide Studio and point to your Drawing Source.
A Layer Definition can reference a Feature Source or Drawing Source
In Maestro, it's New Resource - Drawing Layer Definition

How would I use the new feature source?
more precisely: the new feature source is available as an alias then, how would
I create a layer based on it?

If you go into the serverconfig.ini file, all the way at the bottom there is
a heading for unmanaged datasources. Put something like this in that
section:
DWF = F:\Projects\GP\Data\DWF
That file will be in your Server\bin directory
