Autodesk renamed Mapguide to IMS to indicate the server now supports
technology available in Map3d namely Infrastructure Modeling.
Support for that technology is likely to be nonavailable in the Open Source
version for some time.
So no, it's not just a fancy name change.

Maybe that is true
Changing the product name to something common and generic is a sure-fire
recipe to kill your googlability/SEO.
"MapGuide" is unique. "Infrastructure", "Map" and "Server" in any
combination is not. The acronym is even worse. Why would you want to share
an acronym with a dead ESRI product of all th

Maybe that is true, when Autodesk realizes "IMS" has the same connotation as
"Ford Pinto" or "Datsun 200B", it may revert back to MapGuide.
