I do not know if this answer is the best, but I could not wait to test with
this message if the list server is back on after the 20 or so blank messages
I received.
I guess that to pass your variable to the command you would have to use the
run command that way:
dim a as string

My theory is that our beloved Bill has fallen asleep on top of his keyboard
again, and every time he rolls over he pushes the Enter button and sends a
message.
WAKE UP BILL !

Does anyone know if there is an individual or
company that sells geocoded mapinfo data sets of city, county, or state fire
departments? I'm currently working on a project that requires a location
of every fire department (volunteer or city operated) in a city. It is for

Title: I found a solution to my mapbasic problem
Hi everyone,
I've now worked out why my program wasn't working the second time round (Ok read a bit more of the user's guide. See pages 214/215). Where I discovered that MapBasic has a default co-ordinate system. Which means that I needed to
Apologise in advance if this has been covered before and I'll admitt
that my experience in MapBasic is limited.
Basically, I have a layout. I want to automatically update some text in
the layout.
I have been able to identify the text I wish to change via the "fetch"
and "objectinfo()" commands

Greetings,
I have been experimenting with creating ODBC linkages with an Access
data file. The procedure is straightforward. I run into difficulties
within MI. My situation is after the initial ODBC connection is made,
a browser window of the data file opens. You receive a

Bill,
Is OLE automation a possibility? If so, you can have two way communication
with an MBX by setting up a bogus MB menu item that calls an OLE subroutine
(a public class in say a VB app). Run the menu command when you want to
send the other app a message (like, "look in gfLatitude"). Then u
Brian,
if you want to print the information that is IN the info-window you
can put it in a lay-out and print it then.
If you want to print the ENTIRE info-window make a screen shoot:
1. with the cursor click an the title bar of the info-window
2. hold down the ALT key and press the PRINT key on

I was wondering if anyone knows a simple way of creating custom icons for buttonpads.
I have read the section in chapter 11 in the user guide and it talks about using a
third party resource editor. Can anyone point me towards some free software that will
do the trick.
Many thanks in advance
Does anyone have a clue ? I've just upgrade MI v. 5.5 but i can't reload
the custom symbol that were existing in my 4.5 version.
Every custom symbol are in the good directory.
I need an answer right away.

Hey all:
Does any one have experience with MapPublisher and if so what are the
benefits of this software? Does it produce indexes, legends, grid layouts,
beautiful maps? Is MapInfo compatible with it? ANy info will be appreciated.
Know any other software that will also dress up maps?

Brian,
If you want a snapshot of the screen, you could use the "ALT
PrintScrn" key combination. This would make a copy of the active window on
the Windows clipboard (and the "Clipboard Viewer" can be found in the
Acessories group). You could then paste the image into a word processor and

Dear List
I am relatively new to MI and would like to know how
I print the dialog box and the details contained in it, that are presented on

Ideally I would like to print (to a laser printer, A4 size) the exact information

Sorry to revisit an old topic, but I'm so frustrated trying to produce maps
that anyone in the publishing industry can use quickly and easily. I'm
about to produce about 10,000 Olympic maps (with the help of many
volunteers from MapInfo-L!), so I'm looking for shortcuts. (I know about

Hi Jacques,
Well, I haven't bumped into any way to determine what language MapInfo
is using.
You say that this is important for the portability of tools ! Why is that,
is it because
you want to place you tools in a special menu. If that is so then I would

recommend you and all others

I was hoping that someone may be able to work this problem out for me. I am creating a program to allow the automation of working maps for our company. Basically I use a couple of dialogues to get the user to choose the map and general location. Th
