MB Q: str$(coords) vs. MIF conversion

Coordinates read from an object, stored in a float, and converted to string with the function str$() return only 3 decimal places (.000) versus saving the object as a table, and exporting it to a MIF, which returns precision to 6 places. Why is this, I would think a str$(fCoordX) would return the
