Thanks for the many responses I received on this. I made some incorrect
assumptions about Mapinfo. First of all, I didn't realize that something I
thought was so complicated could be handled so easily - I thought that it
handled the projection and the datum separately, as Arcview does. In

I need to convert some .tab files from nad 27 to nad 83. Any tools that Mapinfo
can use to do this?
I can use an Avenue script to handle this in Arcview, but the conversion back
and forth is a real pain.

In Arcview 3.2, there is a projection conversion utility which allows the datum
of a projection to be changed. I don't believe Mapinfo has the ability to
change a datum using the "Save Copy As" command.

A simple formula for calculating distance by latitude degree is to take the
cosine of the latitude, and multiply it by 69.0933
ie - cos(10 degrees)*69.0933 = 68.04362
