Thank you to all who responded to my Problem.

It didn't appear to be a plotter or printing problem.

Especial to Jacques Paris who hit the nail on the head see below:

steven,
I have read so many horror stories on the subject that I made a small
test
that convinced me not to use custom bitmap symbols. Very simple, I send
a A4
map to a file for a HP2500, then added some symbols and produced another
file. I had reduced your symbol to a 64x64 pixel size. I used a 9 point
size. The results are horrifying : 400kb per symbol. Forget it, not for
me.

Have you considered using rather true type symbols? The small investment
they require is well recouped at their first use.

I am in the process of creating some true type fonts for transport
symbols and the tests I've done create very small print files and work
very well. Although creating all the fonts is rather a time consuming
process.

Has anyone by any chance created any Australian traffic symbols to true
type fonts?

thanks again
cheers
Steve
