Hi All
Just to add something to the ongoing discussion on protection of
Data and copyrights
As some of us pointed out about protecting data by using encryption
techniques and ESRI having passed it onto the developers to make their own
way for encrypting data (MI to follow suit)

Hi Listers,
Just on the PDF thing It seems to be difficult to actually save print
settings in a PDF ? ie. printer, page size, rotation etc. so that the settings
don't have to be re-entered each time.
I am using Acrobat Dist, Writer, Reader 4

A few things to consider:
- to print larger than 11x17 you may have to choose "custom
postscript size" in your Page Setup within MapInfo (after
making sure you are printing to the Distiller); then click
on printer Properties, Advanced to set the size you want

I disagree with you on your example. Let us say that you create an outline
(polygon) of the United states. If you created a map with just the polygon
of the United States and nothing else, you could not copyright that polygon.
I have had good luck with printing large PDF map files. The maps I plot are
20 to 30 mb file size and 70 to 100 mb plot size. The maps themselves are up
to 3 foot wide by 5 feet long. I plot straight to an HP 2500CP (no RIP). I
find that if you create the PDF, the plot time is less than go
When you create a data set, you create a representation of things which may
be "fact".
If I create a data set which has a polygon which represents USA, I would not
own USA or the copyright to it, but I WOULD own the copyright to the polygon
I created. You too could create a polygon to represent U

I do not have a specific fix, but I can provide some advice and experience
that may help you resolve the issue.
I was having similar problems a few years ago. I had to experiment with
combinations of drivers and PPDs to get the correct results. First, use
only postscript drivers and cre
Can anyone tell me what the settings are to print to a pdf? I've mixed and matched and
can't seem to find the right combination to get my fills with no background to show up
correctly. They always end up as solid colors. Also I can't seem to get Adobe to print
anything larger than a 11x17. We h

We've done some stuff with printing raster images to Adobe Acrobat Distiller

Hi - used to be that MI did some dithering to raster images that made
perfectly good quality images look awful. I'm still using a version that
does that (4.5). Has this been addressed in newer versions? This might
be what you're running into when you say that your images look better

What size are you printing to? We found that MapInfo craps out on

Hi all
I would like to know from the list if anyone knows a solution to the problem of
combining Polylines, but only between intersections. I need to combine data with
attributes but only between intersections.
Or split de polyline where the polylines crossing.

I'm having great difficulty achieving any kind of success with plotting
raster images from Mapinfo.
At first, I presumed it was the image quality, but I have exhausted all
avenues here. I can print the images much better in other programs (like
ArcView and CRViewer), but once I take the same imag
Thanks to all those who replied to my listing on DIMs in workspaces.
I use a small programme called 'Autoscale' which allows you to set your
layout frame to scale.
I would like to get in touch with the author - does anyone know who wrote it
or are you out there? Please get in touch.

Your print statement is trying to do some addition because the alias returns
a column value - you need to tell MI that you're working with strings.
Try casting the alias to a string (the Str$() function) - OR - using
ampersands instead of plus signs - OR store the alias value as a strin

Mark -
You can use DIM in the MapBasic window so you can use it in a workspace. The
variable 'belongs' to the mapinfo session, not an individual mbx, so if you
run the workspace more than one in the same session you'll get errors. So -
at the end of your workspace - UNDIM everything you've set u
Dear list,
I have a table with about 100 char columns that I loop through. I make a
selection and an update and then I modify the columns to smallint.
This works fine.
However, I want to let the user know, that the column has changed and that
the program is still altering the table. I would like
