If you want a large number of inflexion points (i.e. different colours), I would suggest that you export the grid as a MI cell map tab, re-codify the z values as class values (a regular range thematic is also limited to 16) with a maximum of 256 and run an individual value thematic on these values.

You could copy the files to the MapInfo directory, or you could try running the Setup.exe found in the AddUser folder in the MapInfo program folder. When MapInfo can't find these files, it's normally because something wnet wrong, when running the AddUser installation. Peter Horsbøll Møller GIS
