Hi Gilbert, The easiest way is to either look in the MENU.DEF that can be found in the folder where you installed MapBasic. You'll see that the 'Select by Square' has number 1722 - or you could use the constant M_TOOLS_SEARCH_RECT, but then you have to remember to include the menu.def in you

I want to find the distance from a point to a region (likely with holes). Is it correct, that mapbasic doesn't have an function for that? And it is not the distance to the centroid that I'm looking for :-) Regards Uffe
