Michael,
It may also be caused by hyperthreading technology of your motherboard,
which (as far as I understand) makes your CPU behave like two processors.
This boosts performance when running several processes simultaneously, but
sometimes slows down when running only a single process. Applic
It may also be to do with how Windows allocates CPU time. If you have
fewer progs open and the processing one as the active window it is more
likely to allocate time to processing your application. Try going to
task manager, and closing down any applications or processes you

Hi,
There is no such CPU usage restriction.
If the process requires a lot of disk reading/writing and you have a slow
disk, then this becomes the bottleneck and you will see a lower CPU usage. I
have seen such situations with <10% CPU usage, although not with straight
selections - those are norm
Mike,
I just ran a fairly simple query on a large table and got 80% CPU, so it
doesn't seem to be a MapInfo restriction.
I think I've seen the CPU going at 100% just opening a word document.
Maybe M$ has inbuilt protection that stops other programs from using all

I don't think so.

Does anyone know how to take a whitespace character out of the middle of

Don't think so, but perhaps you'd have better luck just normalizing your
table(s) so you wouldn't need so many columns.
Dear All,
It looks like there is a limit for the maximum number of columns a MapInfo table can have: 250. Is there a way to increase the number?
Thanks,

Hello,
The limit is controlled by a maximum file size of 2 GB - it will either be
the .MAP or .DAT file that hits the limit first. This is independent of OS.
Kind regards

I used Map Point back in 2000 when it first came out and it was easy to
use. However, MapInfo is much more flexible and robust (and harder to
use).

Currently I am using Map Info version 6.0. We are thinking of upgrading
to the latest version of Map Info. However, someone else in the company
is using Microsoft Map Point. Has anyone else ever used the latter?
Are there any pros/cons re: each mapping system. Any recommendations?

Hello-
Do any of you know, offhand, if there is a limitation in the number of
rows that a MapInfo .tab can have? If so, can it be increased through
the Windows registry
Thanks!

Sorry... I should have been more clear. I have attended this online

seemed quite "Marketing" driven, than Engineering. I got the
