Hi, There is no such CPU usage restriction. If the process requires a lot of disk reading/writing and you have a slow disk, then this becomes the bottleneck and you will see a lower CPU usage. I have seen such situations with <10% CPU usage, although not with straight selections - those are norm

Mike, I just ran a fairly simple query on a large table and got 80% CPU, so it doesn't seem to be a MapInfo restriction. I think I've seen the CPU going at 100% just opening a word document. Maybe M$ has inbuilt protection that stops other programs from using all the CPU for long periods to
